Wheeler & Gray provided civil and structural engineering design for the Sun Valley Metrolink Station in Los Angeles. The project consisted of a new commuter rail station and platform, a new parking lot, and improvements to adjacent streets.

The street improvements were designed to improve the traffic conditions and traffic flow in the area. The improvements included street widening to City of Los Angeles standards, a bus turnout for loading and unloading of passengers, new curb and gutter, street lights, storm drain improvements, driveways, and decorative paving. The street improvement drawings were processed through the City’s Bureau of Engineering.

The rail platform was designed to bridge an existing culvert. The existing culvert passed under the tracks and was subjected to train loading on a daily basis.

The new parking lot was sized for three-hundred vehicles and included landscaping, drainage, and a charging station for electric vehicles. The station serves surrounding commercial and manufacturing businesses and provides a mass transit link to residential areas.
